The world's first 'test tube' baby Louise Brown was born on 25 July 1978 in England. This was a result of the long lasting efforts of Dr. Patrick Steptoe (a gynaecologist) and Dr Robert Edwards (an embryologist). Data presented at the annual conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) has shown that more than three million babies have been born using IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies (ART) since the world's first IVF baby was born in 1978. ![]()
